Malcom X’s Journey To Greatness - Episode 4: Rise of Minister Malcolm
Alright, squad, we’re back with more of Malcolm’s epic saga.
Fresh out of the pen in '52, Malcolm wasted no time getting to work for the Nation of Islam (NOI). This dude was like a one-man recruiting machine, tripling the membership of the Detroit temple in less than a year. Talk about hustle!
By '54, Malcolm was crushing it so hard that Elijah Muhammad made him the minister of Harlem’s Temple No. 7. This was the big leagues, and Malcolm was ready to play ball.
Malcolm’s style was straight fire. He didn’t sugarcoat anything, calling out the systemic racism and injustice that kept black folks down. His speeches were like verbal haymakers, and people couldn’t get enough.
Under Malcolm’s leadership, the NOI exploded. We’re talking from 400 members nationwide to 40,000 in just five years. The man had the Midas touch, no cap.
But it wasn’t all smooth sailing. Malcolm’s rising star was catching the eye of some powerful people, and not in a good way. The FBI started keeping tabs on him, considering him a “key figure” worth watching.
Next episode, we’ll see how Malcolm took his message to the international stage and started ruffling some serious feathers. Stay tuned, bros!
